Tough weekend for Vettel fans – nobody was expecting THAT result! Ferrari will be looking to redeem themselves at the Hungarian Grand Prix (Magyar Nagydij) this upcoming weekend – a circuit which should play to their strengths with its tight bends.
Often referred to as “Monaco without the barriers”, Hungary has been the scene of a few upsets in recent years – Mercedes have only won here once in the V6 Hybrid era, and Ferrari has picked up 2 victories with Vettel (even with a steering problem he experienced in 2017).
With their limousine-like wheelbase, the Mercedes struggles around tight circuits like this one, so Ferrari will be confident coming in to Hungary – they’ll just have to make sure that their engine can keep them in front of the Red Bull, which dominated in Monaco, another tight circuit. Ferrari will take comfort in the fact that they took pole position and a comfortable 1-2 last year, but they will not be looking to give anything away until the race is done.
Who to bet on?
Betway has caught on to Ferrari’s strengths at this track – Vettel is favoured heavily for the win. Odds on him winning are 2.90. Hamilton has won several times at the Hungarian circuit in Formula 1, and thus is also being favoured somewhat. If you place a bet on him to win, you’ll win 3.85 times your bet.
Close behind the two championship contenders are the Red Bulls – always there to pick up the scraps whenever the Mercedes or Ferrari’s run into problems! The odds on Verstappen and Ricciardo are 4.20 and 4.70 respectively – not the worst drivers to put your money on, considering the strengths of the Red Bull car on this kind of circuit!
Our pick:
It didn’t work out for him in Germany, but Vettel will be feeling more motivated than ever at a circuit where he has won twice with Ferrari in the past. That 17 point gap to Hamilton isn’t gonna solve itself! Who will you bet on?
