The closest F1 season in years gets underway again in Belgium this weekend!

F1 returns to arguably its favourite location – Spa Francorchamps, probably the best circuit on the calendar. We’ll never get bored of watching Grand Prix cars going through Eau Rouge flat out (and they’ll undoubtedly be going through there even faster this year)! Hungary feels like a lifetime ago, and F1 fans will be itching to get their fix.

A key factor in every F1 race is the weather, and rain has been forecast for the area this weekend. This means that Lewis Hamilton would go into the weekend as a strong favourite.

Rain and Vettel don’t go very well together, whereas Hamilton can’t seem to get enough of the stuff (Getty)

Why’s that? Well, Lewis Hamilton has won the last 9 rain-affected races in F1. All of them. He hasn’t lost a wet race in over 4 years (remember Hungary 2014?). He’s also no stranger to winning at Spa, having crossed the line in first place 4 times in the past (though only 3 of these victories would stand).

Nevertheless, expect a close battle on this epic circuit.

Even in dry conditions, Mercedes would have undoubtedly done loads of development over the summer break in order to negate Ferrari’s apparent advantage, and thus should be able to at least keep up with the Ferraris.

Vettel fans will undoubtedly be hoping for dry conditions after the last 2 races, but the weather is so unpredictable in this region that we most likely will see rain at some stage during the race.

Rain looks fairly certain to at least affect Qualifying on Saturday.

Monza Gorilla’s pick for this weekend:

We’re doing our best rain dance and going with a Lewis Hamilton multi bet – Winner (Odds: 2.40) and a Winning Margin of over 6 seconds (1.80). This multi bet yields total odds of 4.32, which means if you bet R100, you walk away with R432. Not too shabby! Click here to place your bets at our sponsor Betway!
