Singapore Grand Prix – Ferrari on top?

F1 returns to Singapore's unique street circuit once again

The 2018 F1 season will probably go down ads one of the most exciting seasons in recent years, with a genuine battle between two or more constructors arguably for the first time since 2012!

Over the course of the season, Ferrari seems to have emerged as the overall fastest package, though this has not always been true on race day. We saw this in Italy, where Hamilton got revenge on Ferrari and Vettel for their runaway victory in Silverstone.

Eagle-eyed viewers and analysts have spotted a key difference between the Mercedes and the Ferrari this season – the Mercedes maintains its speed better through high-speed corners, but the Ferrari handles slow corners better and accelerates out of them faster. Generally, this has meant that the two cars are fairly evenly matched at most circuits.

Is Vettel and Ferrari the winning combo this weekend? We think so.

However, Singapore’s Marina Bay circuit includes precisely 0 high-speed corners, and a whole lot of slow ones, which means Ferrari (and especially Singapore ace Vettel) will come into this weekend as extremely firm favourites.

…One shouldn’t forget about Red Bull, however

What about Red Bull, you ask? They were strong in Monaco, which means they should do well in Singapore too? Red Bull will definitely feature, however both Ricciardo and Verstappen have played down their chances of a win, and expect to be between 0.4 and 0.6 seconds behind Ferrari in qualifying. This may be enough to put themselves between Mercedes and Ferrari on the grid, so don’t count them out yet – though completing a race has been a tough ask for the team lately…

Who’s our money on?

With four wins in Singapore to his name as well as what is expected to be the fastest car this weekend, Sebastian looks set to take the win – provided he doesn’t make any more mistakes (we suspect he won’t). Ferrari will be keen to return to the top step in Singapore after the disastrous collision last year!

Less of this, hopefully!
