The Best Laps You’ve Never Seen

Mark Webber: Hungary 2003

Anyone who was watching F1 back in the early 00’s would know that Jaguar didn’t have anything remotely close to a winning F1 car. However, there was one weekend in 2003 at the Hungarian Grand Prix where the Michelins were coming to life on the recently refurbished circuit. This was an especially good lap, however, as Webber almost managed to beat Alonso’s stonking pole lap time. He was ahead of Alonso until the third sector – pretty special for that car.

Takuma Sato: Europe 2004

This special lap remains the fastest ever lap of the Nurburgring’s GP layout – even faster than any of the times set by the legendary F2004, which points to just how fast the BAR Honda was that year. It’s a wonder as to why they couldn’t manage to win any races that year. It looked and sounded amazing too:

Mark Webber: Malaysia 2004

Featuring twice in this list, Mark was arguably one of the most underrated drivers during his career. After Webber was 2 tenths down in the first sector (to Barrichello’s dominant Ferrari) and ended the lap just under half a tenth faster – and on pole position. Only the legendary Schumi himself could manage to beat Mark’s time. Sadly, Webber would have one of his infamous slow starts the following day, and would drop down to the rear of the pack. He would later retire after spinning out in a dismal race for the Australian.

Robert Kubica: Monaco 2010

2010 will always be remembered for its seriously fast cars – The RB6, MP4-25 and the F10 were all seriously impressive bits of machinery. Other teams seemed to be quite a long way adrift of the speed that the big teams were able to accomplish – but this didn’t stop Robert Kubica, who managed to drag his fast-but-certainly-not-the-best Renault up to 2nd place – out-qualifying Sebastian Vettel in the RB6 – a machine that was over half a second faster than the rest of the field at some circuits.

Gerhard Berger: Monaco 1995

Not exactly the fastest, but stunning to behold. The Ferrari 412 boasted one of the last V12s on the F1 grid, which is amazing to listen to. Nothing better than drifting a V12 F1 car around Monaco!
